AWARE Uganda volunteers after a performance in Kaabong township

AWARE-UG was formed because of gender imbalance, resulting in to high levels of domestic violence & GBV, family neglect, women and human rights abuses, Ethnic clashes and cattle rustling causing high family death, highs levels of illiteracy among  Karamojong women, depriving/nomadic culture, high levels of HIV/AIDS as a result of rural nomadic migration.

AWARE boasts of a very experienced, exposed team in the social, economic and cultural problems affecting grassroots women in Karamoja. This team is not only well versed with the geography of the place, but has also a truck record of successful implementation of rural projects over the years.

AWARE has more than 25 years experience in implementing women’s emancipation project/programme.  AWARE operates particularly in Kaabong district, with branches in Abim, Kotido and Moroto . Its broad aim is to advance the social, cultural and economic status of women in Karamoja, interventions on Food security and Nutrition, Girl Child Education, AIDS/HIV & women/Human Rights campaign to build consistency.

KCUKF has distributed clothing and Sanitary pads to the children and women of Kaabong

WE-STAP ( We supply Toiletries and We Supply Toiletries and Products to Women in Need)

We have teamed up with WE-STAP to assist other stake holders to accelerate development for Karamoja in diaspora.

Our aspirations were driven by a few indicators for karamoja compared to Uganda as a nation, for example maternal mortality in Karamoja of 750/ 100,000 live birth compared to 336/ 100,000 live birth nationally in Uganda(Uganda demographic and health survey, 2016).  Infant mortality rates for karamoja is high while for Uganda is 43 %(UDHS, 2016). The literacy levels for Karamoja being 63 % of persons above 15 not having attended formal education compared to national figures of 18%  (UNDP,2015). Reports also indicated malaria prevalence 69% whereas central region at 21% and only 1% in Kampala (UDHS,2015).

We aim at encouraging girl child education by first keeping the girls in school our  project is to prevent periods poverty  in Karamoja the girls drop out as they can’t afford sanitary towels.
Teddy Loumo and Rose Lilly wants to help the many Karamoja girls who are forced to miss school every month. We are raising £ 20,000 to set up a hub where they can make washable and re useable ones.
The project will create a kit 8 reusable pads 2 pairs of underwear soap and information information on menestral health
The project will create jobs for both men and women
we feel committed in ensuring our fellow ladies and girls at the very least have available pads and have the products made to make the situation bearable to restore girls confidence and dignity.
This project will not only benefit the girls in Karamoja but all women in Uganda and UK

The present sanitary pads towels are a hazard to our environment hence We -stap has put out avariety of products which will save our environment from the daily pollution of the plastics that we use today.

  1. Howdy! I know this is kind of off topic but I was wondering if you knew where I could get a captcha plugin for my comment form? I’m using the same blog platform as yours and I’m having problems finding one? Thanks a lot!
